EDITOR’S BLOG: The Pub with no Pool Cues
We have seen legislative changes including lockouts, increased security, bans on certain drinks and of course, the bans on glassware to reduce the number of glassing incidents. The latest call has been for a ban on pool cues and glass ashtrays.
Ban on Pool Cues in Queensland Pubs
The Courier Mail reported on Wednesday (27 January) that Queensland paramedics want pool cues and glass ashtrays banned at pubs and clubs to reduce the risk of being attacked by drunks.
A Glassy Alternative
With all this talk about ‘glass versus plastic’, it was interesting to read a report in The Chronicle (Toowoomba) that a local bar made the switch to tempered glass last year, and not one of their patrons has even noticed the change.
Newcastle Pub Restrictions Declared a Major Success
The Sydney Morning Herald reported yesterday that “earlier closing times, bans on selling shots and lockouts imposed on 14 Newcastle pubs have slashed the number of assaults by 31 per cent and could see similar restrictions extended across the state.”
Ivy and Establishment Must Switch to Plastic
Despite Justin Hemmes pleas to the Supreme Court last week, two of his venues, Ivy and Establishment, will be forced to abide by the new government restrictions on serving alcohol, reported the Sydney Morning Herald this week.
Hemmes Goes to Court over New Restrictions
Following last week’s announcement that Ivy & Establishment would be subjected to new restrictions based on the increased number of violent incidents, Justin Hemmes has headed to the Supreme Court.
