ABC’s series Collectors, will be celebrating its 200th episode this Friday with a profile on Sven Almenning, Outstanding Contribution winner at this year’s Bartender Magazine Australian Bar Awards  and director of liquor industry consultancy Behind Bars, showcasing his amazing cocktail shaker collection.   

While the cocktail dates from 1806 (and earlier) Sven’s collection of cocktail shakers, glasses and spoons spans the period from 1880 to the 1950s when cocktail equipment production was at its height. Many of Sven’s Art Deco pieces are particularily stunning. Most come from America and some few also from Germany. Sven is an appreciator of the great variety of the cocktail, but quite ironically, as he shares with us, his grandfather was President of the Norwegian Temperance Society!
