Brisbane Holds Third Rematch Beeyatch

Queensland is proving that it has a real need for speed by holding their third Rematch Beeytach competition and their second for the year on Monday July 13.
Held at Fortitude Valley’s Barsoma 10 of the fastest bartenders in town battled it out to see who could capture the coveted title of Rematch Beeyatch champion and take home a cool $500 dollars cash to boot.
This Rematch was always going to be tight with current world record holder, Sarah Lusher from Zuri and runner-up from the last Rematch, Kristian Balendinos from Bank, both taking part in the field of speedy competitors.
In the end it was the home court advantage that helped Bar Soma’s Steve Drakopoulos Barsoma walk away with the cash with a very credible time of 2.36.
The fastest time of the night again belonged to Sarah Lusher (2.16), but Steve got the nod due to superior drinks quality.
Sienna from Uber came in a third place while the title of ‘Beeyatch’ went to flare bartender Chris from the Plough Inn, who apparently wasn’t told it was a speed comp. He did, however, wow the crowd with some style and entertainment.
The organisers, Marco Nunes (Freespirit bartending & Chalk Hotel), Shaun Warner (Red Bull) and Martin Lange (Sling/Salon), commented that: ”Big thanks goes out to Bar Soma for generously supporting the Brisbane bartending fraternity. It was a great night with more 200 people in the venue getting amongst it and having a great time. Special thanks also goes out to the judges, Ben Roberts (Chalk Hotel), Bonnie Shearston (Libertine) and Ryan Noreiks (The Lark) who were charged with the difficult task of judging/drinking the standard of drinks which were produced.”
